Liposuction / Fat Removal
Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to permanently remove stubborn fat deposits and refine body contours for a more aesthetic shape. This method is particularly effective for areas resistant to diet and exercise.
Prof. Dr. Özay Özkaya offers VASER, LASER, and Lipomatic liposuction techniques, tailoring each approach to suit the specific needs of each patient.
Liposuction: A Highly Sought-After Procedure
Liposuction is one of the most popular aesthetic procedures, often leaving patients saying, “I’m so glad I had it done.” However, it is important to emphasize that liposuction is not a weight-loss method; it is a body contouring procedure.
Many individuals, despite years of dieting and exercise, struggle with:
✔️ Lack of a defined waistline
✔️ Persistent fat deposits below the navel
✔️ Love handles (flanks), thick arms, or bulky legs
Even after some weight loss, many patients find that stubborn fat pockets remain due to genetic predisposition. These genetically programmed fat deposits are often resistant to diet and exercise, making liposuction a highly effective solution.
Liposuction for Asymmetrical Fat Distribution
Some individuals experience disproportionate fat distribution, leading to concerns such as:
✔️ Thin legs but a wider midsection
✔️ A lean upper body but disproportionately larger thighs
In such cases, liposuction is frequently used to correct body imbalances, restoring aesthetic harmony between the upper and lower body.

Liposuction: Targeted Fat Removal
Liposuction is a surgical procedure designed to permanently remove stubborn fat deposits from any area of the body where diet and exercise have been ineffective.
It is also suitable for individuals who maintain a stable weight and are not overweight but struggle with localized fat pockets that create an unbalanced appearance in clothing. Using advanced fat removal techniques, liposuction breaks down and extracts excess fat, reshaping the body for a more defined and proportional contour.
Achieving an Athletic Look with Liposuction
After liposuction, engaging in exercise and strength training can lead to faster muscle definition, helping patients achieve a more athletic physique in a shorter time. In some cases, liposuction can enhance the visibility of abdominal muscles ("six-pack abs") and arm definition, providing a more sculpted appearance.
Liposuction Techniques: VASER, Laser, and Lipomatic
When researching liposuction, you may frequently hear terms like VASER liposuction, Laser liposuction, and Lipomatic. These methods all work on the same principle:
✔️ Breaking down fat deposits within the body
✔️ Using a specialized vacuum system to extract the liquefied fat
I perform all three techniques—VASER, LASER, J-Plasma, and Lipomatic—customizing the approach based on each patient's needs.
Laser Liposuction vs. VASER Liposuction: Which Is Better?
The choice of technique depends on several factors, including:
✔️ Location of fat deposits
✔️ Skin elasticity and quality
✔️ Patient’s age
✔️ Amount of fat to be removed
✔️ Number of areas to be treated
(For example, the outer thighs count as one area, the lower abdomen another, and the love handles separate from both.)
In some cases, combining multiple techniques can produce optimal results. I sometimes use both VASER and Laser liposuction in the same patient to achieve a more refined contour.
Determining the Safe Fat Removal Limit
Once the method is selected, the next step is to calculate how much fat can safely be removed.
- A safe extraction limit is 10% of the patient’s body weight.
- For example, in a 60 kg (132 lbs) patient, removing more than 6 liters of fat is not advisable.
- Exceeding this limit may pose health risks, so fat removal is carefully controlled to ensure safety.
Can Liposuction Be Performed in Summer?
One of the most frequently asked questions is whether liposuction can be done during summer. The answer is yes, but post-operative care must be carefully followed, especially regarding compression garment use and sun exposure.
Frequently Asked Questions About Liposuction
✅ Surgery Duration: 2-5 hours, depending on the amount of fat removed
✅ Hospital Stay: 1 day
✅ Pain Level: Minimal discomfort; no significant pain
✅ Compression Garment Use: 6 weeks
✅ Return to Work: 5-7 days after surgery (if less than 2 liters of fat is removed, return may be possible within 2 days)
✅ First Shower: 4-7 days post-surgery
